China has successfully completed the preliminary design for its pioneering fourth-generation commercial fast reactor, the CFR1000, with an installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. This advanced reactor leverages fast neutron nuclear reactions to generate electricity, fully aligning with the safety, sustainability, and economic standards of fourth-generation nuclear energy systems. Notably, the sodium-cooled fast reactor has emerged as the preferred technology for fourth-generation nuclear power, attributed to its high breeding ratio, robust transmutation capabilities, and inherent safety features.
