Krish Shah and IndieD3v, two innovative developers, have unveiled TrackWeight on GitHub—a groundbreaking project that repurposes the Force Touch-enabled trackpad of MacBook laptops into a digital scale. Compatible with MacBook Pro models from 2015 onwards and MacBook models from 2016 onwards, TrackWeight allows users to simply place their finger on the trackpad to obtain an instant pressure reading, with a maximum capacity of 3.5 kilograms. It's important to note that the developers advise against using TrackWeight for weighing luggage or human bodies. For accurate weighing of metal objects, it's recommended to place a piece of paper or cloth beneath the object to ensure it rests fully on the trackpad, enhancing precision. A demonstration video highlights that the measurement error of this digital scale stands at approximately 2 grams.
