On October 24, CNBC reported, citing sources, that SpaceX has imposed restrictions on the utilization of Starlink and Starshield satellite internet services in Ukraine. This move has resulted in the disconnection and subsequent crashes of high-speed drones. Consequently, Kyiv is actively exploring alternative solutions. On Thursday, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense announced that it had signed a letter of intent with Finnish tech giant Nokia and satellite manufacturer ICEYE. The collaboration aims to jointly develop innovative defense and satellite communication capabilities. Ukrainian President Zelensky emphasized that modern warfare has underscored the critical importance of reliable communication for national security, highlighting the necessity of relying on controllable capabilities. Furthermore, Zelensky revealed this week that Ukraine has forged a partnership with Norway to co-develop air defense and communication systems, serving as an alternative to Starshield.
