On October 21, reports surfaced indicating a remarkable milestone in the development of a key national scientific and technological project—the Hard X-ray Free-Electron Laser Facility (SHINE). Leveraging an electron beam produced by a 4-gigaelectronvolt continuous-wave superconducting linear accelerator, this cutting-edge facility activates 18 undulator segments. Each segment, measuring 4 meters in length and featuring a magnetic periodicity of 55 millimeters, has played a pivotal role. The facility has triumphantly generated its inaugural free-electron laser emission, marking a significant leap forward. This achievement not only underscores the project's technical prowess but also paves the way for its scheduled completion and commissioning by the end of 2027.
