Security experts have unveiled a significant security vulnerability within the Telegram Desktop application, a flaw that has since been resolved in the 7.2.9 update. Following the majority of users upgrading to the latest version, the researchers have now made the vulnerability's specifics public. This particular security gap can be manipulated via meticulously constructed tg:// links. Earlier iterations of the client exhibit a weakness in processing unique separators within the data of single-instance communication frameworks, paving the way for the insertion of extra commands. In severe scenarios, attackers could trick users into transmitting local files unknowingly. Should users neglect to establish a local password for the client and their session data falls into the wrong hands, their accounts risk being commandeered. To bolster security, users are advised to activate the locally locked password option—which is inactive by default—to encrypt local session files.
