PS5 Linux core developer Andy Nguyen (TheFlow) announced his departure from the PS5 development community and the cessation of related development work. Previously, he planned to hold back a hypervisor vulnerability until after the release of GTA 6 to support the PS5 Pro. However, researcher Jordy, who relied on AI tools, reported the vulnerability to Sony, thwarting Nguyen's plans. Nguyen has dedicated over a decade to PlayStation security research, successfully transforming PS5 Linux into a system capable of running AAA games, and had planned to release a version supporting the PS5 Pro in 2027. Jordy stated that he chose to report the vulnerability due to concerns that others might also use AI to discover it and claim the bounty. This incident has sparked widespread controversy within the community and highlighted a trend: AI is separating the abilities to 'understand systems' and 'alter systems,' enabling individuals without deep technical expertise to find vulnerabilities using AI, thereby impacting the project timelines of seasoned developers.
