On August 16, Fox News reported that Harvard University's investment arm has revealed a substantial stake in SpaceX, valued at $2.2 billion. The Harvard Management Company disclosed this holding in a regulatory filing on Friday, marking SpaceX as the largest single equity position within its $4.3 billion U.S. stock investment portfolio. SpaceX's groundbreaking IPO in June has yielded substantial returns for university endowment funds, which secured SpaceX shares through venture capital investments, some of which were initiated over a decade ago. In addition to Harvard, the investment division of the University of California also disclosed a holding of approximately $1 billion this week. Moreover, the University of North Carolina and Washington University in St. Louis also have stakes in SpaceX.
