Microsoft recently updated its plan to deactivate Manifest V2 (MV2) extensions, with the Edge browser set to gradually phase out this old architecture, following in the footsteps of Chrome. Starting from August 2026, the remaining 58 MV2 extensions will be turned off by default, with only 3 lacking MV3 alternatives. Microsoft advises users to migrate to MV3 extensions or switch to other browsers, such as Firefox. Enterprise users will see a complete deactivation of MV2 in early 2027. This adjustment will have a broad impact, rendering older extensions like the ad-blocking tool uBlock Origin unusable.
