Tech giants are advancing the process of 'passwordless' authentication, with Passkey seen as a secure alternative to traditional passwords. However, the latest research by cybersecurity firm Unit 42 points out that Passkey is not absolutely secure. Researchers have discovered a security vulnerability in the memory management mechanism of the Google Chrome browser, which hackers can exploit to steal Passkeys from Chrome's memory and subsequently take control of victims' online accounts. However, such attacks require the victim's PC device to be already infected with malware as a prerequisite.
