According to a July 14 statement, the Swiss Competition Commission (COMCO) secretariat has launched a preliminary investigation into Google, focusing on its decision to remove the 'choice screen' feature from Android devices in Switzerland. This feature enables users to choose their preferred default search engine during the initial setup of a new device. However, Google preemptively eliminated this feature in Switzerland before the investigation was announced, even though it continues to be available within the European Economic Area. At present, the Google search engine has automatically become the default choice for Swiss users, and the 'choice screen' is no longer presented during the initial device setup process. The Swiss Competition Commission has stated that the investigation aims to ascertain whether Google has engaged in conduct that breaches the Cartel Act and unlawfully stifles competition.
