Based on the documents that SpaceX submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company has poured in more than US$15 billion into the development of the Starship rocket. By 2025, the project is anticipated to rack up expenditures of around US$3 billion, a significant increase from the US$1.84 billion spent the previous year. The Starship, hailed as the most formidable rocket in history, is engineered as a fully reusable launch system. Its primary objectives include deploying large satellites into orbit and, ultimately, accomplishing manned lunar landings and Mars missions—a groundbreaking feat in the annals of spaceflight. Elon Musk, back in 2018, forecasted that the development costs for the Starship would hover between US$2 billion and US$10 billion. In April 2023, he further speculated that the expenditures for the Starship in that year would reach approximately US$2 billion. The rocket is slated to embark on its 12th test flight as early as tomorrow, with SpaceX pinning high hopes on this impending launch.
