At the 2026 'Super Tech Day' press event, Wu Kai, the Chief Scientist at CATL, emphasized that pursuing a multi-chemical system strategy for battery material development is an essential path forward. Presently, CATL boasts three primary material types: lithium iron phosphate, ternary lithium, and sodium-ion, with ongoing efforts to pioneer even more advanced chemical systems. Sodium-ion batteries, in particular, show immense potential across transportation and energy storage sectors. Having successfully addressed critical manufacturing challenges, these batteries are poised for mass production within this year.
