On April 20, reports emerged that Blue Origin, a US-based aerospace company, had launched a refurbished 'New Glenn' heavy-lift rocket on the 19th. The rocket was carrying a communications satellite for the US firm AST SpaceMobile. Despite the successful recovery of the rocket's first stage at sea, the second stage encountered a malfunction, failing to propel the satellite into its designated orbit. AST SpaceMobile announced that due to the rocket's second-stage anomaly, the 'BlueBird' 7 satellite was placed in an orbit that was lower than anticipated. Although the satellite managed to separate and activate successfully, its current orbit is too low to sustain normal operations. Consequently, it is projected to deorbit and eventually fall. Fortunately, the associated losses are anticipated to be mitigated by insurance coverage.
