Recently, significant strides have been made by a team led by Academician Guo Guangcan at the University of Science and Technology of China in the realm of constructing long-distance quantum network nodes. The team, comprising Professor Shi Baosen, Researcher Zhang Wei, and Associate Professor Zhou Zhiyuan, has ingeniously utilized a cold atomic ensemble devoid of a complex optical cavity. Coupled with their self-developed, highly efficient, polarization-independent quantum frequency conversion module, they have successfully achieved entanglement between atoms and photons within the communication wavelength band. Furthermore, leveraging a 20-kilometer-long optical fiber, the team has realized the long-distance transmission of this entangled state and verified that the entanglement fidelity post-transmission surpasses 80%. The pertinent research findings have been duly published.
