On Wednesday, South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb announced that a significant vulnerability within its internal system had left it open to security breaches. This flaw also failed to avert an erroneous transfer of assets exceeding $40 billion last week. As South Korea's second-largest virtual asset exchange, Bithumb inadvertently distributed around 620,000 bitcoins to users during a promotional campaign. This was a stark deviation from the intended distribution of 620,000 South Korean won (equivalent to roughly $426) per user. Consequently, the incident triggered a 17% plunge in the price of bitcoin.
