On December 29, China's first domestically produced commercial 300-MW class heavy-duty gas turbine project—Unit 5 of Phase II at Huadian Wangting Power Plant—was officially put into operation, marking the first time the entire domestic industrial chain for commercial gas turbines in China has been fully established. Located in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, the project involves the construction of two 494-MW gas-steam combined cycle units, both utilizing the world's first batch of 500-MW fully hydrogen-cooled generators. Unit 5 was jointly developed by China Huadian Corporation in collaboration with Shanghai Electric and other entities, overcoming multiple key technical challenges and generating over 30 innovative achievements. It has achieved independent control from the research and development of core components to the operation and maintenance of the entire unit, providing solid equipment support for building a new energy system and ensuring national energy security.
