Apple finds itself embroiled in an antitrust skirmish with the European Union (EU) concerning its adherence to the Digital Markets Act (DMA). As reported by the Financial Times, both Apple and Meta are currently in the home stretch of hammering out agreements with EU regulatory authorities.

Previously, Apple had consistently voiced objections to the DMA. The tech giant contended that compliance with the act would introduce security vulnerabilities and negatively impact user experience. These objections did not go unpunished, as the EU slapped Apple with a hefty 500 - million - euro fine.

In an attempt to fall in line, Apple has made some adjustments to comply with the regulations. For instance, it has permitted developers to incorporate external links. However, these concessions have come with strings attached. Apple has imposed conditions like redirection limitations and commission fees, which have ignited a wave of discontent among developers.

On the flip side, the EU remains steadfast in its stance. It emphasizes that the DMA is designed to foster fair competition and prevent tech behemoths from exploiting their dominant market positions. Consequently, the EU demands that Apple conduct a comprehensive overhaul of its App Store rules to ensure full compliance.
