At the recent National Statistical Work Conference, it was announced that the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) aims to revise the comprehensive statistical monitoring system for evaluating high-quality development by 2025. This overhaul will prioritize enhancing the monitoring framework for emerging industries, new business formats, novel business models, and the digital economy. It will also intensify statistical oversight of online retail, thereby fortifying the statistical indicator system tailored to high-quality development. Furthermore, the NBS will undertake research and revisions to the classification of national economic industries, encompassing sub-sectors such as the "three news" (new industries, new business formats, new business models) and the digital economy. This includes updating the catalog of strategic emerging industries and developing statistical classification standards specific to the private economy. Additionally, the NBS will revise the classification and treatment of statistical units, bolster the statistical system for industrial activity units, and expedite statistical work at the locations of business entities. In the cultural sector, the NBS plans to improve the comprehensive cultural statistical system, accelerate statistical monitoring of the digitization of the cultural industry, and establish a statistical monitoring system for grains and major food items. These initiatives are aimed at refining the statistical monitoring systems for rural revitalization, high-quality urban development, the state-owned economy, the private economy, and small, medium, and micro enterprises.
