Recently, Judge Noelle Wise of the U.S. District Court in San Jose dismissed a class-action lawsuit against Apple. The lawsuit accused Apple of failing to effectively prevent the storage of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on its iCloud platform and sought $32.8 billion in damages. The judge ruled that, under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, Apple, as an online service provider, is immune from liability for user-generated content and is not responsible under the law. The dismissal was 'with prejudice,' meaning the plaintiffs cannot refile the lawsuit on the same grounds. The plaintiffs' attorney stated that they are considering an appeal.
