On the 8th of this month (local time), Meta announced that it will build its first data center in Canada in Sturgeon, Alberta. This will also be its 33rd data center site globally. Designed specifically for artificial intelligence infrastructure, the data center will have a capacity of 1GW and require an investment of CAD 13 billion. Once operational, it will provide over 300 operational positions and approximately 3,000 construction jobs during the peak construction period. The center will utilize 100% clean energy and be equipped with a water-saving closed-loop liquid-cooled dry cooling system. Meta has committed to covering all energy usage costs, supporting the construction and upgrade of the power grid, and investing approximately CAD 60 million in local infrastructure improvements.
