On July 3, Reuters reported that on the previous day, July 2, QTS—a data center operator under the U.S.-based Blackstone Group—announced the cancellation of its data center project in Virginia, USA, along with the withdrawal of all associated application documents. Initially planned to span 2,100 acres and encompass the construction of 37 data center buildings with a total area of 22 million square feet, the project was poised to become the world's largest data center campus upon completion. The main factor behind the cancellation was legal disputes. The site is located adjacent to a historical park, and the public notification process failed to comply with regulations. Additionally, with the withdrawal of the project's partner, there was no entity to share the renovation costs, rendering the continuation of the project financially unviable.
