Nuclear energy startup Valar Atomics and NVIDIA have successfully demonstrated the first AI data center powered by a micro nuclear reactor in Utah, addressing the water and energy challenges posed by the surge in AI computing power. This demonstration combines Valar's high-temperature gas-cooled microreactor with NVIDIA's Blackwell chip platform. The reactor, cooled by helium, along with NVIDIA DSX data center's closed-loop liquid cooling design, reduces the facility's annual water consumption from approximately 2.6 million gallons per megawatt to nearly zero.
