Four enterprises, including Tokyu Corporation, Tokyu Inc., Tokyu Construction, and Its Communications, have jointly declared their intention to embark on a pilot project. This project involves the construction of an urban data center beneath a railway viaduct, slated to commence in June 2026. The experimental setup will feature a compact, modular data center positioned under the Tokyu Oimachi Line viaduct. The primary objectives are to evaluate the effects of train-induced vibrations and temperature fluctuations on server operations, as well as to assess the acoustic insulation, cooling efficiency, and shock resistance of server cabinets. This endeavor seeks to pioneer innovative approaches for harmonizing the efficient utilization of urban spaces with the advancement of digital infrastructure. It aims to cater to the escalating demand for data infrastructure characterized by low latency and high stability, which is being propelled by the proliferation of generative AI, IoT, and 5G technologies. Notably, a high-capacity fiber-optic network has already been deployed along the Tokyu Railway lines, with provisions for potential future expansion into regions such as Shibuya.
