In February 2026, Apple made a substantial leap in upgrading its Apple Intelligence cloud infrastructure. The company bypassed the intermediate M3 and M4 chip nodes, jumping straight from the M2 Ultra to its self-developed M5 chip as the core processor for its private cloud computing servers. This upgrade significantly enhanced the cloud's AI computing capabilities. The new hardware model, designated as J226C, introduces a novel Private Cloud Compute Agent Worker component. This component operates on a customized version of the iOS system and utilizes an agent architecture to efficiently handle AI requests. Additionally, the iOS 26.4 system has integrated code specifically designed to interact with this new architecture, ensuring seamless software and hardware integration.
