On August 25, 2025, Amazon inked a strategic cooperation pact with X - energy, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and Doosan Enerbility. The objective of this partnership is to expedite the roll - out of the Xe - 100 fourth - generation small modular reactor and TRISO - X fuel in the United States. This move is intended to cater to the escalating power requirements in the data center and AI industries. Previously, Amazon had made a substantial investment of $500 million in X - energy via its Climate Pledge Fund. It had also laid out plans to deploy over 5 gigawatts of nuclear power projects across the United States by 2039. Under the terms of the new agreement, the Korean industrial partners will lend their support to the nuclear energy initiative. Moreover, they will evaluate opportunities for global expansion. Amazon also entered into a long - term power purchase agreement with Talen Energy. As per this agreement, starting from 2025, Amazon will secure 1,920 megawatts of carbon - free nuclear power for its AWS data centers. The agreement will remain in effect until 2042. In addition, the two entities will jointly explore the development of small modular reactors to bolster energy independence in Pennsylvania.
