On October 15, 2025, in Ottawa, Ericsson, the Swedish telecommunications equipment behemoth, entered into a cooperation agreement valued at US$3 billion with Export Development Canada (EDC). This move is strategically aimed at bolstering research and development (R&D) efforts, as well as optimizing the supply chain layout for 5G and next-generation network technologies within Canada. As per the terms of the agreement, spanning from 2026 to 2030, Ericsson will channel its investments into R&D centers located in Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. The company plans to establish a brand-new 5G base station supply chain tailored for the North American market. Additionally, it will set up an artificial intelligence network optimization laboratory to further enhance technological advancements in the region.
