AMD has recently re-launched its iconic gaming processor, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition, a move that was first suggested by CEO Lisa Su. Travis Kirsch, Senior Director of Client Product Management at AMD, disclosed in an interview that this re-release is not merely a rehash but a necessity, driven by TSMC's decision to discontinue the first-generation 3D V-Cache stacking process. AMD must now adopt the second-generation process and re-validate its production workflow, which involves significant engineering efforts, including certification of the stacking process, sample production, and reliability testing.
This re-launch comes at a time when the DRAM market is experiencing a supercycle since early 2025, with DDR5 prices skyrocketing. Counterpoint Research forecasts that DDR5 64GB RDIMM prices could double by the end of 2026. In this context, the AM4 platform, which continues to use DDR4 memory, shines for its cost-efficiency. The 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition not only honors the decade-long legacy of the AM4 platform but also offers an upgrade path for budget-conscious gamers. AMD claims that this processor remains the most powerful gaming processor on the DDR4 platform, providing an average of 10% higher gaming frame rates than the Core i9-14900K.
