Eric Gullicksen, once a technical advisor for NVIDIA, recently took to his blog to assert that he had been awarded 25,000 stock options back in September 1993. The relevant documents clearly outlined that these options would vest in four equal installments over the course of a year. Fast forward to 2024, and Gullicksen stumbled upon a 1996 letter from NVIDIA's CFO, which only acknowledged the vesting of 15,625 options. Taking into account a 480-for-1 stock split, the remaining 9,375 unvested options translate to a staggering 4.5 million shares. Based on the closing stock price on September 25, these shares are estimated to be worth around $1.01 billion. Gullicksen approached NVIDIA with a proposed settlement, only to be met with rejection. NVIDIA's stance was that the statute of limitations had lapsed and the window for exercising the options had already closed.
