In the second quarter of 2026, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) catapulted to the forefront of the global memory chip industry, achieving an extraordinary 82% EBIT profit margin and securing its position as the most profitable memory chip manufacturer worldwide. During this period, its revenue skyrocketed nearly tenfold compared to the same quarter in the previous year, outpacing growth among the six leading memory chip producers. This outstanding performance stemmed from the DRAM industry's super cycle, fueled by the explosive demand driven by advancements in AI technology. Simultaneously, overseas manufacturers pivoted towards producing high-value-added HBM chips, which led to a decreased supply and subsequent price hikes for traditional DDR/LPDDR memory. CXMT, whose product lineup predominantly consists of traditional bulk DRAM, greatly benefited from these market shifts.

As the world’s fourth-largest DRAM manufacturer and the sole large-scale producer in China, CXMT had previously faced financial challenges, even reporting a negative gross profit margin in 2023. However, in the first half of 2026, the company turned its fortunes around, achieving revenue of RMB 150.31 billion, net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB 77.605 billion, and a gross profit margin of 84.84% for its main business. This remarkable transformation not only marked its successful transition to profitability but also underscored the commercial viability of domestically produced memory chips.

Despite these achievements, CXMT still lags behind South Korean powerhouses such as Samsung and SK Hynix, which dominate the market with their high-margin AI storage solutions like HBM. CXMT continues to face significant challenges in terms of wafer capacity and revenue scale, and it bears the weight of substantial pressure for sustained long-term R&D investment.
