On August 28, surveys conducted by Reuters revealed that, propelled by a sharp increase in the global demand for artificial intelligence chips, South Korea's exports in August are poised to sustain their robust growth trajectory, marking a year-on-year rise for the 15th consecutive month. Based on the median forecast from 10 economists, South Korea's exports are projected to surge by 62.6% year-on-year in August, closely mirroring the impressive 63% growth witnessed in July. Analysts highlighted that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the two leading memory chip behemoths, are the main engines propelling export growth. Park Sang-hyun, an economist at iM Investment Securities, noted that information technology products, especially semiconductor exports, are anticipated to uphold their high-growth trajectory. Looking forward, the robust performance of the global manufacturing sector is expected to continue bolstering the semiconductor-driven upward trend. However, owing to the base effect, the year-on-year growth rate of exports is likely to decelerate gradually.
