On August 4, reports surfaced indicating that Samsung Electronics is set to elevate the production capacity utilization of its chip foundry operations to a full 100% in the latter half of 2026. Presently, its utilization hovers around 70% to 80%, but a surge in orders for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) base chips and advanced process nodes has propelled its operations to near-full capacity. This sector had previously grappled with extended periods of losses. Nonetheless, buoyed by the escalating demand for artificial intelligence (AI), the utilization rates of Samsung's 4-nanometer and more cutting-edge production lines have seen a resurgence. Consequently, its profitability outlook is poised for enhancement, although the yield rate for the 2-nanometer process still poses a significant hurdle.
