Recently, the research team led by Professor Wu Yongpeng and Academician Zhang Wenjun from the School of Integrated Circuits at Shanghai Jiao Tong University has achieved a significant breakthrough in the fundamental theoretical research of information theory. Centering on the challenge of Gaussian vector source compression, the team has surpassed existing theoretical boundaries by developing a comprehensive rate-distortion theoretical analysis framework. This framework elucidates the information-theoretic limits under various distortion constraints and uncovers the influence of source correlation on the optimal compression structures and their performance.
