On July 17, foreign media outlets reported that Mitsubishi Electric Corporation is on track to finalize an agreement with Toshiba Corporation and Rohm Co., Ltd. by September, with the aim of integrating their respective power semiconductor businesses. This strategic move is set to unite three prominent players in the global power semiconductor market.

Kei Urushibashi, CEO of Mitsubishi Electric, revealed that the three companies are currently in the process of ironing out the finer details and aligning their efforts to ensure a smooth agreement. Once integrated, the combined entity is projected to ascend to the pinnacle of the global market share rankings.

The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has been actively advocating for the consolidation of domestic chip manufacturers, in a bid to bolster their competitiveness against formidable international rivals, notably Infineon. Data from Omdia indicates that Infineon commands a substantial share of nearly one-fifth of the global power semiconductor market. In contrast, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba, and Rohm each hold a market share of less than 5%.
