On July 17, the opening bell revealed a mixed bag of performance across the three major U.S. stock indices. The Dow Jones Industrial Average started the day on a positive note, climbing by 0.28%. In contrast, the S&P 500 Index dipped slightly, registering a 0.17% decrease, while the Nasdaq Composite Index saw a more pronounced drop of 0.40%.
The memory sector emerged as the primary drag on the market, with notable declines in shares of SK Hynix, Micron Technology, and SanDisk, which slid by 6.58%, 3.16%, and 4.27%, respectively. Additionally, popular stocks like Nvidia and TSMC also experienced downturns.
However, amidst the general market gloom, UnitedHealth Group stood out as a beacon of hope. Its stock price soared by 8% following the announcement of an upward revision to its full-year earnings guidance and the release of financial results that surpassed market expectations.
