In its most recent report, Bank of America pointed out that the market holds an overly optimistic view regarding the capacity expansion plans of South Korea's leading memory chip manufacturers. In reaction to President Lee Jae-myung's 2030 ambition to double production capacity, Bank of America projects that, after factoring in capacity reductions resulting from the closure of outdated facilities and technological upgrades, the real annual growth rate in capacity will remain below 10%. This falls significantly short of the goal to double capacity by 2030. Furthermore, it is estimated that by 2028, SK Hynix's actual new capacity additions may only amount to one-sixth of its initially planned figure. This is because constructing new factories requires several years, and developing a complete manufacturing ecosystem could span over a decade.
