Recently, Intel has discreetly raised the recommended retail prices for its desktop-grade Core Ultra 200S Plus series processors. This move comes despite the fact that models like the Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus were only launched in March 2026. This price adjustment impacts three specific models: the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, and Core Ultra 5 250KF Plus, with price hikes ranging from 10% to 20%. To be precise, the price of the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus has jumped from $299 to a range of $339 - $349. The Core Ultra 5 250K Plus has seen its price climb from $199 to a range of $219 - $229, while the Core Ultra 5 250KF Plus has increased from $184 to a range of $204 - $214. Officially, Intel attributes these price increases to mounting supply chain costs and robust market demand. In particular, the AI boom has exerted cost pressures across the entire industry chain. This has spurred data center expansion, triggered a surge in demand for semiconductor components, and caused prices of upstream materials to soar. Moreover, the computing modules of the Core Ultra 200S Plus series are fabricated using TSMC's 3nm process. They share production capacity with AI accelerators such as AMD's MI350 and NVIDIA's Rubin. Given the fierce competition for AI chip production capacity, TSMC's foundry quotes have risen. As a result, the cost pressures from the supply chain have ultimately been passed on to consumers.
