On June 26, Wang Junjie, the Executive Secretary General of the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA), announced at the 2026 China (Shenzhen) Integrated Circuit Summit that the performance of China's integrated circuit (IC) industry in the first quarter of the year deviated from its traditional cyclical patterns. The year 2026 kicked off on a strong note, with shipment volumes nearly matching those of the fourth quarter of the previous year. Data revealed that the domestic IC manufacturing sector led the entire industry in growth during the first quarter, a phenomenon rarely seen before. Recent forecasts from industry institutions indicate that the global semiconductor market is projected to exceed $1.5 trillion in scale within the year. However, the industry is also grappling with structural supply-demand imbalances. Memory factories have reported significant performance growth, while prices for wafer foundry and packaging/testing services have risen. Conversely, profitability for terminal manufacturers, such as mobile phone companies, is facing downward pressure.
