On June 22, 2026, U.S. President Trump signed two executive orders focusing on quantum technology research and development and security layout (layout/deployment). The first executive order requires the U.S. Department of Energy to collaborate with the private sector and academia to develop a quantum computer for scientific research by 2028 and deploy it in national laboratories. The second executive order requires federal agencies to complete the encryption technology upgrades for core government systems by 2030-2031 to guard against cybersecurity threats posed by quantum computers.
