According to the latest research conducted by TrendForce, a structural supply shortage in mature-process DRAM has led consumer DRAM buyers to shift their focus towards purchasing older-generation products. This strategic move aims to secure larger supply quotas, thereby triggering a fresh wave of procurement demand for older-generation consumer DRAM chips, particularly DDR2 and DDR3. As a result of this trend, the contract prices for these chips are set to continue their upward trajectory, which was initially observed in the first quarter of 2026. Specifically, it is anticipated that DDR2 contract prices will experience a significant increase, rising by approximately 55-60% in the second quarter, with the potential for an additional 35-40% hike in the third quarter.
