On May 13, it was reported that wage negotiations between Samsung Electronics and South Korea's National Samsung Electronics Labor Union hit a deadlock on Wednesday. Union leaders have indicated that over 50,000 employees are poised to launch a full-blown strike as initially planned, a move that could potentially disrupt the production of AI chips and other semiconductor offerings. Prior to this, both parties had engaged in extensive, marathon-style negotiations under the auspices of government mediation. However, they still fell short of reaching a consensus on critical issues, notably bonus distribution. The union is calling for the elimination of the bonus cap and the allocation of 15% of operating profits for employee bonuses. In contrast, Samsung has only agreed to a 10% allocation.
