The burgeoning demand for AI-related hardware has sparked a price frenzy in the PC DIY market. According to the latest report from Japanese tech media outlet PC Watch, AMD Ryzen series CPUs have witnessed substantial price increases in Japan's DIY market, with some surges exceeding 50%. Even older processors on the AM4 platform have not escaped this trend. In this latest round of price hikes, the Ryzen 9000 series has been the most severely impacted, with certain models seeing price increases of over 30% within just a month. For example, the Ryzen 7 9700X has experienced a staggering 57.4% price surge. Furthermore, the Ryzen 7000 series has also seen notable price escalations, with the ever-popular Ryzen 7 7800X3D rising by 41.3%. In contrast, price increases for AM4 platform processors have been relatively moderate, generally falling within the 5% to 10% range. Industry reports suggest that consumer-grade CPU prices are projected to rise by an average of 10% in the first half of 2026, with cumulative increases for AMD's related product lines potentially reaching 16%-17%. The main catalyst behind these price hikes is the global surge in demand for AI computing power, which has led chip manufacturers to prioritize the supply of enterprise-grade server chips, thereby constraining the availability of consumer-grade CPUs in the market.
