A maintenance blogger known as 'Brother Zhang, the Computer Repairman' recently shared a story about a severely damaged RTX 4070 Super graphics card that he received for repair. The client, a passionate gamer, had a heated argument with his wife. In a burst of anger, the wife first smashed the graphics card and then poured cooking oil into its heatsink. When the graphics card was brought in for repair, it was tightly wrapped in plastic. Upon unwrapping, cooking oil spilled all over the table. The backplate was crooked, and the aluminum fins were bent out of shape.

Brother Zhang encountered significant difficulties while attempting to clean the cooking oil that had seeped into the PCB board. However, through repeated scrubbing, drying, and wiping with alcohol, he managed to clean it thoroughly. Testing revealed that the graphics card's DP interface required replacement. There was also an error in the B1 channel of the memory, and six points on the PCB pads had come off, four of which were critical signal points. Brother Zhang repaired the memory chip by jump-wiring the missing points and reballing them. Eventually, the graphics card was successfully powered on.

However, due to the deformation of the PCB board caused by the smashing, the graphics card can now only be placed flat or installed using a riser card for suspension.
