On April 7, 2026, Intel made a significant announcement regarding its involvement in the Terafab chip project, which is spearheaded by Musk. In this venture, Intel will work hand - in - hand with SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI to co - build and operate a state - of - the - art chip factory in Austin, Texas.

The core objective of this project is to seamlessly integrate logic chips, memory chips, and advanced packaging technologies. It sets an ambitious target of achieving an annual AI computing power output of 1 terawatt. A substantial portion, around 80%, of this computing power will be earmarked for space - related applications, while the remaining 20% will cater to uses on Earth.

Leveraging cutting - edge 2nm process technology, the construction of the project will unfold in two distinct phases. The first phase is slated to kick off production in the latter half of 2027 and is expected to reach the initial stage of mass - producing chips by 2028. Meanwhile, the second phase is projected to be fully completed by 2030.
