On March 16, 2026, Micron Technology, the U.S. memory chip giant, saw its stock price surge over 6%, nearing its all-time high. The company announced plans to build a second large-scale chip plant at the site of its flagship wafer fab in Tongluo, Taiwan, China, acquired from Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. The new facility will be similar in scale to the existing Miaoli plant and will focus on data center-grade DRAM, with a particular emphasis on expanding HBM production to meet the computational demands of artificial intelligence. Construction is expected to commence before the end of fiscal year 2026.
