The United States has alleged that China is involved in unfair trade practices within the semiconductor industry. The Office of the United States Trade Representative has unveiled the results of its investigation into China's chip sector, which spanned nearly a year. Based on the findings, the U.S. has decided to impose tariffs on Chinese semiconductors. Initially, the tariff rate will be set at 0%. However, 18 months down the line, specifically on June 23, 2027, this rate will be escalated to a level that will be disclosed separately. The announcement of the specific rate will be made at least 30 days prior to its implementation. The U.S. contends that China's drive to dominate the semiconductor industry has placed burdens or imposed restrictions on American businesses, leading to the decision to take such measures.
