Recently, SMIC has announced price hikes of roughly 10% for certain production capacities. Several companies have already received these price increase notices and have indicated that the new pricing will take effect shortly. The primary drivers behind this price surge are the escalating demand for chipsets, spurred by the growing needs in mobile applications and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors, along with rising costs of raw materials. At present, both SMIC and Hua Hong Semiconductor are operating at capacity utilization rates that are either nearing or have surpassed full capacity levels.
