On Wednesday, Rene Haas, the CEO of chip design firm Arm Holdings, remarked that relocating some artificial intelligence tasks from the cloud to local apps would aid in diminishing energy use. He highlighted that, in the long run, the model that heavily depends on colossal, gigawatt-sized data centers is not viable. According to Haas, there are two strategies to attain minimal energy consumption: firstly, embracing the most energy-efficient solutions in the cloud—a domain where Arm has played a significant role; secondly, more precisely, transferring AI workloads from the cloud to local applications.
