On May 28, China's 41st Antarctic Research Expedition, embarked on the state-of-the-art polar research icebreaker 'Xuelong 2', successfully concluded its mission and returned in triumph. The expedition, spanning 208 days and traversing over 40,000 nautical miles, made several groundbreaking discoveries: during autumn, pronounced water stratification was observed in the Ross Sea, the distribution patterns of low-trophic-level organisms became clear, and dense krill swarms were discovered in the continental slope area of the western trough. High-trophic-level organisms were predominantly concentrated in the marginal ice zone. These findings have significantly enhanced our understanding of the Antarctic ecosystem.
