Shanghai Step Medical Technology Co., Ltd. has unveiled groundbreaking advancements in its invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. A quadriplegic individual, who underwent surgery in March to have a BCI device implanted, has successfully trained to use their mind to play computer games such as "Mario Kart." This achievement marks Step Medical as the second company globally to advance to the clinical trial phase for invasive BCI technology. The surgery was performed at Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, and remarkably, just three weeks post-surgery, the participant was able to "brain-control" a computer cursor with manipulation skills on par with those of able-bodied individuals. Step Medical aims to conclude clinical trials on 3-4 subjects this year, paving the way for the registration of further trials in the upcoming year.
