Anthropic launched the Claude Duet preview on October 21, positioning it as an AI agent capable of proactive work, aiming to compete with OpenAI's Dots and Meta's Muse. The product is primarily targeted at small businesses and professionals, capable of performing tasks such as sending daily briefings, monitoring applications, building dashboards, and scheduling meetings. Claude Duet is built on Claude Opus 5.5 and is available as a standalone app for iOS and Android, as well as a web version. The initial rollout is open to a waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers in the United States. The app features an independent virtual machine and browser, allowing it to continue operating even when the user's device is turned off. Users can assign tasks via text or voice, and will be notified or asked for review upon task completion. In terms of tool ecosystem, Claude Duet can access over 6,000 connectors and plugins, covering common office and business services. It can also complete online payments through Link or Shop Pay and use virtual cards to avoid revealing real card numbers. Regarding security design, the app does not directly access user passwords or login tokens. User approval is required before sending messages, making payments, signing documents, or deleting content. The system is also equipped with specialized classifiers to block requests for leaking highly sensitive information. However, Anthropic admits that this is still an early version and may have issues such as misinterpreting conversations or misjudging the urgency of tasks.
